ALINA on the ISSUES

I’m running for EWSD school board to prioritize students over bureaucrats.

Every decision I make will be guided by one question: “Does this help our children thrive?”

Cut Waste, Fund Excellence

Current BOE: Bloated administration, two assistant principals for one high school, and a former principal on “special assignment”—despite a 15% enrollment drop since 2009. Spent ~$1 million on an unfinished North Side fence and related litigation. Raises budgets while serving fewer students.

My Plan: Streamline administration. Enhance STEM, special ed, student clubs, humanities, and arts that enrich learning. Analyze and address every line item in the budget and resolve wasteful litigation.
Hire and Retain Better

Current BOE: Hired an inexperienced HS principal who resigned after two years; high teacher turnover.

My Plan: Advocate for merit-based and transparent hiring, while introducing retention incentives for excellent teachers, so every dollar helps our children succeed.
Restore Trust and Transparency

Current BOE: Ignored a 500+ signature petition for curriculum transparency and a 250+ signature request to restore video-streaming of BOE meetings.

My Plan: Respond to community petitions within 30 days. Reinstate livestream video-recorded board meetings. Hold inclusive quarterly town halls to ensure all stakeholders are heard.
Build Career-Ready Skills

Current BOE: Limited Career & Technical Education (CTE).

My Plan: Seek community interest in financial research lab & trading floor with Bloomberg-software equipped terminals and new STEM initiatives. Foster corporate and health network internships. Expand CTE pathways with certifications, e.g. AWS, Cisco, and CompTIA to prepare children for the evolving AI landscape.
Fix Guidance, Focus on Futures

Current BOE: Weak college relationships, limited post-graduate options for diverse learners, no internship or volunteer directory, outdated guidance website.

My Plan: Create a searchable directory for student opportunities. Build university and career connections. Provide tools & access all families need to thrive after graduation—no private college consultants needed.
Start Sports Sooner

Current BOE: No intramural sports for grades 5–6.

My Plan: Gauge community interest in launching intramural sports by grade 5 to promote teamwork, fitness and school spirit early, and to pursue grants to build a Willets Road School playground.
Include All Voices

Current BOE: Eliminated a committee on best educational practices, silencing parents and taxpayers.

My Plan: Create a Community Advisory Committee to shape inclusive, balanced policies that reflect us all.
